An innovative dining experience awaits visitors at the Pop Modern Design, a high-tech dining area designed by Studio Tali Gotthilf. Inspired by the vibrant styles of Pop Art, Art Deco, and Modern design, this space offers a refreshing escape from everyday office culture without leaving the building.
The design concept seamlessly blends various design elements to create a cohesive visual message of recreation. Neon signs casually placed on the walls evoke a hint of the American vintage Diner period, while tall Art Deco dividers extend the entire length of the eatery, dividing the space into distinct areas. The modern concrete floor and wall tiling add a contemporary touch.
One of the unique features of this design is the axis of movement from the entrance, leading visitors into a 40-meter corridor defined by the floor, ceiling, and lighting fixture extension. This corridor serves as a transition space, guiding guests towards the dining area. The furniture chosen for the dining area is understated, allowing it to blend harmoniously with the various design statements.
The design team utilized metal, glass, and wood to create definitive wall partitions that run the full length of the dining space passageway, effectively transforming them into sculptural room dividers. This combination of materials adds a touch of elegance and sophistication to the overall design.
Functionality was a key consideration in the design process. Upon entering the dining area, visitors are greeted by a clearly defined path. The layout includes a hand-washing niche, followed by various buffet stations leading to the seating area. The exit from the dining area is equally practical and well-defined.
The Pop Modern Design covers a space of 1200 square meters, with a length of 80 meters, width of 15 meters, and a height of 6 meters. The project, which started in February 2019 in Sderot, Israel, was completed in February 2020 and opened to the public in February 2021, in response to the pandemic restrictions.
The design team conducted extensive research to ensure the functionality of the space. They calculated the kitchen capacity to provide sufficient dishes, seating accommodation, and time settings. With a limited kitchen capacity of one thousand meals, the dining area can accommodate up to two hundred diners at a time. The research was built upon past documentation from previous company locations.
Overcoming challenges posed by the large, empty, open space allocated for the dining area was a crucial aspect of the design process. The long and narrow shape of the room was transformed into a dramatic feature using Art Deco slab dividers, marking the division between the corridor and dining areas. Natural light was also a vital consideration, with light outlets located at the extreme ends of the space. To compensate for this, bright neon signs were attached to the walls, along with warm LED light fixtures.
The Pop Modern Design has received recognition for its outstanding creativity and ingenuity. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Interior Space, Retail, and Exhibition Design category in 2021. This prestigious award honors designs that exhibit strong technical and creative skills, contributing to quality of life improvements and making the world a better place.
